Pregnancy: 22 Weeks ... Almost Happy New Year!

How far along? 22 Weeks 2 Days
Total weight gain/loss:Christmas Week and a Pregnant Gal... hmm I am thinking I may have gained a little this week. Haha!  Hopefully I wasn't too bad. Also, one whole pound on the scale is the BABY hahaha!
Maternity clothes?  Yes! And I have now taken to stealing Sam's clothes. :) His button downs are just so comfy
Stretch marks? Nope!  Still exfoliating in the shower, drinking a ton of water, using vitamin E oil, and shea/cocoa butter lotion by Johnson & Johnson.  My mom never had any, so I hope that I am one of those lucky people.
Sleep: Actually having a good night of sleeping.  I think the being off work helps!  I get to sleep in (mostly this means about 7:30, but I did so great today and slept in until 9... woohoo)
Best moment(s) this week: Seeing my moose man on the sonogram! Hands down best moment EVER. This was my best Birthday yet!  Christmas was awesome, too.  We are incredibly blessed.
Have you told family and friends: Yes
Miss Anything? I miss being able to go until I literally was asleep on my feet.  I just cannot let myself do that right now.  I constantly want to be up doing something, but I am being mindful that there is a whole other person counting on me to be careful with myself!
Movement:  Yes! Moose doesn't like it when I get hungry.  He gets antsy.  He also enjoys soda!  (Nobody worry... we only have one a day sometimes, and after Tuesday, New Years, we are saying bye bye to even that!)
Food cravings: Nothing too crazy this week... but that's probably because I have gotten everything I want all week.  Merry Christmas & Happy Birthday! Mom made me grandpa's chili. Alan made me chicken fried steak - MY ALL TIME FAVORITE!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Praise the Lord! Not this last one... hoping for a continued good grace on this one.
Have you started to show yet: Yep! Nobody is questioning whether or not I'm pregnant.
Gender: Little Moose Man. It's a Boy! We are narrowing down a name, but we are keeping our choices close to heart.  People have so many comments.  It can be a little painful to hear what people think for an already emotional lady.  We will keep you all posted.
Labor Signs: no
Belly Button in or out? in... hoping for it to stay this way. 18 weeks to go.
Wedding rings on or off? on and still loose... I haven't swelled anywhere else.  I'm going to be positive and suggest maybe I won't swell too much!
Happy or Moody most of the time:  I am an ear to ear grin kind of gal!  I do, however, not like to be hungry or tired.
Weekly Wisdom: Don't be uncomfortable!  There is enough going on in life and your body.  (If say a pair of jeans or a sweater looks cute but feels awful; just don't wear it!  You will have time later on to rock those clothes.)
Looking forward to: I CANNOT wait to put together this little dude's room.  I have already picked a color scheme (Brown & White) and a theme (Moose).  If you want to see the design board I put together check out this other post

Sam and I are also pleased to announce that we are buying a house! Right in the middle of Christmas and baby, but it has to be done.  We are extremely nervous as first time home buyers, but we found a great spot that is a little closer to family.  It's a bit bigger than we thought we would be able to afford.  It was priced to sell because it is in need of some TLC, but it is nothing too crazy.  We have had the place inspected and are waiting out our option period.  Please pray that everything goes smoothly for us during this whole process.

We are looking forward to celebrating the beginning of another year.  2013 will be full of NEW.  I have been working on my resolutions.  I can I just say that making New Year's Resolutions while pregnant is very hard to do.  I don't know what to expect at all in the next year... Hope your and yours stay safe celebrating the new year!  Happy Holidays from the Riley family!!!!!

The Results are in: Little Moose Man

What an incredible birthday gift!!! I was so pleased that we were able to go and find out the sex of the baby on my birthday.  The sonogram suite was hopping yesterday morning when we got there, and I had to PEE... but she said you have to wait until after the sonogram to go.  I waited "patiently" for it to be our turn to go back.  Sam was trying to take a nap on the wall, while my mom and I fielded all the texts of everyone guessing.

They took us back, and she first did all the measurements for the doctor.  (I go in to see the awesome Dr. Maas next week, but everything looked good to the sono gal.)  Then, she went through a got some pictures of our cuties face for us.  The last thing she did was scan down to his little legs... and NO DOUBT it's a boy! Daddy was a proud papa because he said he couldn't figure out his kids face, but when the wand went there he said I knew those were boy parts!!!  What a boy!!!

Not only is he a boy, he is hands down a MOOSE! This little dude is making moose antlers at us in utero. Check him out!  This reminds me of Sharon and I's old "fuzzy horns" from high school. When we asked my step-dad what the heck a deer in velvet was, and then proceeded to run around making antlers for the entire weekend making antlers on our heads. :)

I have already started to plan for this handsome man's nursery.  After much thought and FAR too much Pinterest help, I put together this Olioboard.  Of course this is a tentative plan for the room, but I am in love with so many of these things.  Some of it will depend on the money and what we can find.

For all you inquiring minds, it does happen to be a pure coincidence that the brown Moose print on Etsy has the name Samuel on it.  Sam and I are still tossing names back and forth, though I will say, we haven't ruled out Samuel. :) I am in love with this color scheme and our moose theme.  I cannot wait to move forward getting Little Moose Man's room ready for him!

Thank you all for keeping up with us and enjoying each part of this process with us.  We are very blessed!

Total weight gain/loss: I've gained 9 pounds. Hopefully, I will continue to stay on track.
Maternity clothes?  Yes... I look kinda like a slob, lol! Oh well...
Stretch marks? Nope.  Still exfoliating and putting on lotion. Fingers crossed.
Sleep: Ahh!  I have been trying to finish my Christmas shopping which has not left me much time for myself, so I have not gone out and gotten the preggo people pillow.  I did build a pillow fortress last night, and it worked out pretty decently!

Weekly Wisdom: Next year, we Christmas shop on Black Friday!  Not being done a week before Christmas stresses me and my mom out!
Looking forward to: Christmas! Fa La La La. Sam getting to feel the baby move... hopefully soon!

How far along? 19 Weeks 2 Days
Total weight gain/loss: Up 9 pounds... Doctor says she is pleased with where I am!

Stretch marks? Not yet... I have been exfoliating the belly in the shower each time with Bath & Body Works sugar scrub.

Best moment(s) this week: Doctor's Visit! I love getting to hear the thump, thump, thump of the baby's heartbeat! Nothing new or super exciting to report on this one... Just got a flu shot and a check in on the bambino.  (Little heartbeat in the 130s)

This should help with that walking in the closet depression. :)

Old Wives' Tales Gender Prediction

These are the most common Old Wives' Tales I could find about predicting the sex of the baby.  I went through them to determine what they said we were having.... (The italics is the side that I have landed on so far in the pregnancy.)
Morning Sickness - If you have it, you are having a girl.
Carrying High vs Low - If you are carrying low, you are having a boy.
Acne - If you have acne, you are having a girl.
Food Cravings Salty vs Sweet - If you crave salty, you are having a boy. If you crave sweet, you are having a girl. (This one is a tie for me.)
Baby's Heartbeat over 140? - If the baby's heartbeat is under 140, you are having a boy.
Ancient Chinese Predictor - According to the Ancient Chinese, we are having a boy.
The Drano Test - My husband will not allow me near dangerous chemicals to attempt this test, so we will just have to let this one be a mystery!

It's a dead heat.... Guess until we know the verdict of the Drano test (OR until December 28th) it will just be a tie. Haha

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving with your families! Lots of love, The Rileys

Total weight gain/loss: 5 Pounds

Anything making you queasy or sick: yeah funny story [and a little gross, so skip this one if you have a weak stomach.]  I haven't been actually sick at all in a couple of weeks.  Until, this morning of course.  I have been really wanting to go to church, but for weeks I was too sick to get out in the mornings.  Finally, I have had some energy, so I thought this morning would be great to go.  I got all dressed; we drove all the way to Waxahachie and... I reached around for anything I could find in the backseat.  I found newspaper and threw up into them.  Poor Sam had to witness the whole thing.  I managed to get it on my dress, the floorboard, and my brand new iPhone.  Awesome! Needless to say we missed church again.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Tired... happier this week tho.
Weekly Wisdom: Even if you think it's over... take a plastic sack with you everywhere!

Okay, I am silly, but how cool is it that the baby is the size of a Baseball.  It is somewhere between 3.5 and 4 inches.  The baby can hear my voice and can see light.  All the developments at this point are crazy to me.  It is all getting so much more real with each new week!

Doctor's Visit 11/7/12:
My doctor is so awesome! Dr. Maas surprised me with a sonogram to be sure that everything is going well with the baby.  It was the coolest thing.  It was the first time that I have gotten to hear the baby's heartbeat on the doppler.  I love that sound.  There is a little thump, thump, thump in my belly!  On the sonogram, I finally got to see a baby shaped baby.  At this point you can make out little toes and see the eyes.  The doctor pointed out the baby's little crossed legs, and he/she sucking a little thumb.  I could see the baby move on the screen.  The baby tried to squirm out of the way of the sonogram wand.  It is so neat!

We get to find out the baby's gender on my birthday... so only two more months of waiting. :)

Panther Football:
It's been a fun year to be a teacher at Midlothian.  We are in the Playoffs for the first time in a decade.  I love getting to spend time with my beautiful cheerleaders.  The seniors had their last home football game on Friday.  I only managed to get a picture with one of the seniors, but I love all my girls.  Woohoo, Go Panthers!

Pregnancy: 12 Weeks

When I read this week's update on the baby, I was so excited!!! The baby can hiccup.  How fun is that?! :)

How far along? 12 weeks 2 days
Total weight gain/loss: 2 pounds up (not sure if this has changed since last week... because I haven't weighed myself.  This seems like the best practice since my clothes are increasingly tight, and I keep whining that I feel like I look funny in them.)
Maternity clothes? No, but I am definitely thinking soon.  I am betting by Thanksgiving break I'm rocking a pair of maternity jeans.  Mostly just because my jeans have the tiniest zipper, and they were tight pre-pregnancy, so every little change in my waist is like woah!
Stretch marks? None so far, fingers crossed
Sleep: I roll from side to side.
Best moment(s) this week: Having training this week, which meant a long lunch with my friends! YAY! (wish this could happen more lol).  Rebekah and Emily coming to the football game and us talking the whole time! And the dance last night with my super handsome husband who got all spiffied up for me.
Have you told family and friends: Yep! Excited that the holidays are approaching so I can see more people.
Miss Anything? Seeing my momma this week.  She went and ran 100K in Oklahoma with her friends.  Woohoo, go Momma!

Food cravings: Nothing so much this weekend...
Anything making you queasy or sick: PIZZA BLEH
Have you started to show yet: Yes!
Gender prediction: Boy... Sam still says girl. I am ready to hear other people's guesses now I think.

Doctor's Trip 10/10/12
Sam got to go with me to the doctor's this week!  We were excited to get to hear the baby's heartbeat... Which we didn't end up getting to do, lol.  The baby was low in my uterus and turned around the wrong way.  The doctor did a quick sonogram to be sure everything was good, and she said the baby was squirming around too much to get a specific rate.  Everything looked good, though, and she was happy. Sam said he thought that it would look more like a baby already, but since the baby was backwards it still pretty much looked like a blob.

The first thing I asked her was, "Why am I showing? Isn't it too early?"
She laughed at me... And said you're pregnant!  She explained that I am small person and that my uterus is tilted forward.  Between these two things I am showing early.  I probably won't grow too much for a while, but that's ok by me.  She did confirm that there is only ONE baby, so Sam has amended his prediction and just thinks there is just one girl.

I am trying out a new prenatal at my doctor's request.  She wants me to begin building up my iron stores.  I had previously been taking the gummie kind.

My next appointment is in four weeks.  It will be another quick appointment, and in between 18-22 weeks we will get to do our anatomy and gender scan!  (It should be around Christmas time... what a wonderful Christmas present.)

I was obsessed with littlebabygarvin.blogspot.com during her pregnancy.  Jessica is adorable and her chalkboard is the holy grail of pregnancy chalkboards.  After using ours at our wedding, I knew I wanted to use it during my pregnancy.  I hope my art skills get better over the next months. :)

Announcing the News!

Sam and I are excited to finally announce our news.
We are pregnant!

It's still early, and we originally wanted to wait until the second trimester to tell everyone.  However, that plan didn't work out exactly.  Here's the story of how we found out and how our secret got out:

My husband was determined that we would get pregnant on our Honeymoon, but after that wasn't true I figured we would take our time and let time takes it's course.  Sam was taking the step out of coaching world, and I was just starting at a new school and taking on the cheer coaching position.  Our first week of school was chaos!!!!  We had a 5am alarm clock pep rally, the first football games of the season, and the general first week of school insanity.

I was stressed, and I knew I was a little bit late.  I just kept waiting.... So finally after the nagging thought began to take over my brain.  I decided to take a home pregnancy test on Wednesday during that first week of school.  I was certain it would be negative, and I could stop stressing out.  6am and eyes half open, I looked and it was positive!  I left it on the bathroom counter for my husband to find and laid back down.  He was shocked when he found it! At that point, I was 4 weeks.

We were going to keep quiet until 13 weeks.  At 6 weeks the nausea hit like a tidal wave.  I spent the whole weekend throwing up.  I felt terrible, and I made myself very dehydrated.  I went to school that Monday.  In the middle of first period, I had to leave to throw up twice.  The next time I went to throw up, I got so dizzy I passed out in the hall.  Another teacher was there and caught me.  The next thing I remember I was in the middle of the bathroom floor throwing up, while the school nurse, one of our assistant principals, my husband and another teacher are all staring at me.  I had to go to the Emergency Room and get fluids, but needless to say in a high school news travels fast.  Thanks to the rumor mill and some obvious signs.... Everyone knew I was pregnant by the end of day.

I was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, so I went to see the OB right that week.  The condition basically means you throw up and throw up and throw up.  I get all kinds of anti-nausea meds to take. And at this point, I've tried every old wives' tale and trick there is.  I'll write another post about this soon.

I am at 9 weeks now, and we decided that keeping it quiet on Facebook was too challenging now.  I have been anxious to begin blogging my journey.  We hope that everything continues to be healthy!  The doctor seemed to say that with as sick as I've been everything should be great.  I see the doctor again in two weeks.  I cannot wait to see hear the heartbeat! :)

July 7, 2012

I have had previous blogs about our wedding before, but I just got the CD of our wedding pictures in the mail from my amazing photographers.  I am motivated to gush more about our big day.  I cannot believe how quickly time flies!!!

We used Pinterest to get a lot of our ideas, so I will try my best to credit what I can...

Our venue was the YWCA in downtown Fort Worth.  They have a nice price and an open vendor policy, which we really appreciated.  It is a historic building, so it has a lot of details that make decorating easy.  The ceremony space is downstairs with the nice big fire place, and upstairs is a ballroom.  (I was torn about whether or not to spend the money on chair covers, but ultimately I didn't.  I don't regret not covering them because I don't think my guests really noticed or cared, but it does stand out a bit in pictures.)  The tables and chairs are provided by the facility, so you cannot bring anything else in.

Our table decor was the Pinterest inspired mason jars and bandanas.  We also used smaller mason jars with holes punched in the tops for salt and pepper shakers.  The centerpieces were simple mason jars filled with white flowers.  My stepmom did the flowers for the wedding because for me they were the least important piece, and I didn't see any reason to spend the money on a florist.  I made the little cards next to the mason jars to communicate to guests that they should write their name on the tag and use it for a drinking glass.

The I Spy cards were also Pinterest inspired.  We used Martha Stewart's page to get our idea. It really did start a conversation between the guests, and in some cases even inspired a competition.  We hid the camera (which was green and did not match) behind the cardstock cards. I made a spot for guests to return the cameras, so that the cleanup folks weren't finding them all over at the end of the night.

We opted not to do a traditional wedding cake, but instead I wanted cake balls (or politely called cake truffles.) I had mine made at Sugar Bee Sweets in Arlington.  They were delicious, and my guests loved them.  My husband loved shoving a whole one in my mouth during the cake eating pictures also! :)My husband didn't want a traditional grooms cake either, so we made an Oreo tower.  He loves Oreos more than most things on earth, so this was perfect.  We had the glass beverage dispenser filled with milk once "cake" was served.

After lots and lots of searching, I couldn't find a guestbook that I liked.  I knew we would never use it again, but I didn't want to do the mat on the picture because there's nothing worse than looking back in five years and not remembering who someone is (I've had friends that this has happened to) or you have a falling out with and there is their name on your wall.... what a waste.  I came up with a funky idea that my guests would sign a penny for good luck.  They put their penny inside the chalkboard piggy bank.  (I got him at Target.)  It was fun and different.  People even managed to draw little pictures on their pennies, so it was neat to go through them all.

My grandparents vintage suitcase filled with stock became a place for guests to place their cards.

This whole piece of decor was the most special and probably my favorite thing we had at our wedding.  My husband has lost both his parents, and I wanted to honor them at our wedding.  Sam's dad made jewelry out of rock (you can see it in the first picture above).  I took many different pieces of that and put the pendants on fishing wire and hung it on a small tree.  I made the tree out of branches in our backyard.  Several other pendants were in a small mason jar that you can see in the last picture.  I typed up the story of his mom and dad's jewelry business (that came from an unsuccessful gold mine) and framed it to match the rest of our wedding signs.  I also put their wedding picture on the table.  I had already taken some bridal pictures wearing several of the pieces, and I surprised my husband with those pictures later too.

The vendor we used for our invitations was incredible!!! Due to some health concerns in our family, we were unable to confirm our wedding until the last minute (about five weeks before), but Gina of Ginger P Designs was incredible! She made this custom design for us, and this was not the first or second or third design she made for me.  She also doesn't charge for shipping and these invites are high quality and well-priced!! I loved them and my guests knew exactly what to expect at our BBQ chic wedding.

We had such a wonderful day! All these beautiful pictures are credited to my incredible team of photographers.  Camille and Sara of Pureography are amazing photographers.  I am also fortunate enough that they are friends of mine.  I think my wedding made our sixth photoshoot together, so we were a well-oiled machine.  I cannot wait to pick out my pictures and get my flush mount album from them!!

I loved the way our colors turned out, and the way it all came together!  I have so many other incredible pictures to share that this may not be my last wedding post yet :)

Thanks y'all!

Teacher, Teacher

I flipped through all the pictures on my cell phone of this summer, and I can truly say it has been one of the best ones I've ever had!  Not only because we got married, but also because we had so so much fun.  Bridal Showers, Wedding Shopping, Running Races, honeymooning, starting a new job.... It has all been such a blast.  I married my best friend 48 days ago, and I didn't think much would change.  I was wrong, though!  I am so happy and full of life.  I feel like the pressures of so many things are gone.  I know we are excited to add to our family, but I no longer feel rushed or in a hurry.  Sam and I have our life ahead of us.  This year has already been filled with so many memories.  I cannot even imagine how much richer it will be at the close of another four months.

Starting a new school year is always exciting and nerve-wracking.  I am praying that this year is smooth sailing.  As the JV Cheer Coach, I know there will be many busy nights, but I also think that I have such a cool opportunity to get to know some great kids.  I hope that I am able to really make a difference in my students lives and that maybe I can awaken a passion to write and read in some of them.  We begin the year with short stories and research, which are my two least favorite things.  Third six weeks should be a blast.  I hope that my students will enjoy Shakespeare.  (At least some of them!) Rah! Rah! Rah!  I will be positive and proactive about this year.  It's so fun that I get to work down the hall from my husband... who is completely goofy.  I just pray that I will have the strength to handle Monday with grace and integrity, while still showing my students that I mean business. What a challenge!

Monday really marks the end of the vacation and the returning back to work.  The summer seemed so long and wonderful, but now I am so very ready for my season.  The cool smell of Autumn!!!! There is so much to look forward to.  Football, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas... and so many other things in between.  I never expected that I would be such a happy person, but I am thankful to God everyday for blessing me with such an incredible life.

Back to Real Life

It's crazy! You spend days, weeks, months planning this one day...and then as quickly as it came, it's already over. I am married. How insane is that?

It turned out to be a beautiful day, and I genuinely think my guests had a good time which was my main goal. Sam and I talked that night about what we loved best about our big day. We agreed that we loved our ceremony. Cheesy, but true. I thought that was the part I would care the least about, but nope I loved every second of staring into his eyes knowing this changes everything. Ok, everything and nothing. Getting married does really change it all, but nothing actually changes, haha. Sheesh!

My wedding day was spent with some of my best friends, great family, and my groom! There were a few moments of crisis... Almost loosing my something old (a pendant that belonged to my grandfather), realizing my dress was torn, my bustle breaking, but all in all I don't think anyone but us knew about all those things! The food was good. The alcohol was awesome... Jello shots were a big hit. I got lots of compliments on the little details, too!

Leaving the reception was strange, and I had birdseed stuck all over! But as soon as we pulled out Sam realized he had left his phone, so we pulled around back and he went back in. What a funny thing to watch, lol! The Ashton was gorgeous and perfect for our first married night.

We were very grateful for the two days in between the wedding and the honeymoon! It gave us a chance to breathe a little, and well it got a little crazy with my whole job situating (that is a whole other story for a different time), but we got packed and rested and then we left.

Our honeymoon was incredible!!!!! Playa Mujeres was gorgeous. I'm glad we decided to go big because it's something I know we will probably never be able to do again. The all inclusive was freakin sweet. I had not drank since 2011, so it was fun to cut loose and enjoy myself. We played on the ocean, swam in the pools, and enjoyed a show every night. Also, I got to read a book every day!!! I read through almost all of the Sookie Stackhouse books.

What an enjoyable week!!!!!

We came home to our first test of marriage because our air conditioner was broken. Our house was 90 degrees when we got home. That night was miserable. We were both so cranky. My mom has also been gone and so we had her dogs this week. Basically in summary, my life has been chaos for three weeks. My mom got home late last night. Her dogs are at her house. Our AC is mostly working, so finally I say we are back to "real life". I better knock on some wood because I know as soon as I think it is all smooth sailing... Curve ball.

Here are some pictures of my dress, the wedding, and the honeymoon!!

First comes Love

Then comes marriage!!!!!

Today, I am getting married. It's a really weird feeling. Laying in bed I feel nervous, which means I feel sick to my stomach. I have always been this way... Any type of nerves and I feel sick. I hope that the hustle and bustle of the day will change that.

I have been planning this day for so long. I can't believe it's here!

I pray for peace and grace today for myself and Sam.
I pray for an unbreakable marriage.
I pray for a strong Christian lifestyle.
I pray for faithfulness and a strength in not worrying about it.
I pray for more days of happiness than sadness.
I pray for God's plans for us to be revealed to us in easy to understand ways and that we would be quick to know what he desires of us.
Heavenly father please bless us... Amen.
